Each December for the past 19 years, Pantone has named their ‘colour of the year’ – a colour they believe will be influential in fashion, interior and design over the next 12 months.
The colour chosen to capture the zeitgeist of 2019 was Pantone 16-1546, or Living Coral. It is a vibrant yet mellow coral hue with golden undertones that Pantone says “emits the desired, familiar and energising aspects of colour found in nature” and “displays a lively presence within social media,” representing the fusion of modern life.
It is said to communicate our need for authentic experiences that enable human connection and intimacy in a time when we are constantly bombarded by an onslaught of digital technology and social media. Living Coral is spirited and engaging and symbolises our desire for optimistic outlooks and playful pursuits.
Colour is an equalising lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities and this is particularly true for Living Coral. With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanising and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord.Leatrice Eiseman [Executive Director of The Pantone Colour Institute]
