If you’ve been keeping up to date with Blonde Sartorial, either here or on social media, you’ll know I’ve just returned from a trip to New York, a week ago today in fact. Being sartorially minded, visiting the U.S. fashion capital meant one thing: CLOTHES! From visiting the Anna Wintour Costume Center at The Met to shopping at world-famous department stores, fashion played a big role in my trip. I also gained so much inspiration from everywhere and everyone in the city.
Also, before my trip, I had a lot of fun planning outfits for while I was there. I tried to pick pieces that would suit the mood of places I would be visiting and things I would be experiencing and have created a two-part lookbook of my favourite outfits from the week.
The Concrete Jungle
These pictures were taken at the Brooklyn Bridge Park across the Hudson River from Downtown Manhattan, giving a beautiful view of the skyline. I chose an outfit comprising of a bright red cropped blouse and checked skirt to contrast the blues, greys and neutrals that otherwise dominate the frame.
I accessorised with my favourite “dad trainers” and the tourist staple that is a fanny pack, although I’d like to think this quilted Gucci version is more Madison Avenue than Magic Kingdom. These two pieces provided a foundation for all my NYC outfits: the bag is a current favourite of mine and walking over 40 miles in five days requires comfortable footwear.
The look is completed with a pair of narrow cat eye sunglasses and a slick of red lipstick, although the latter is admittedly difficult to see. It was 32°C and both the struggle and sweat were real!
Pink as Fxck
Black, white and pink is one of my favourite colour combinations, so when I planned a trip to the Instagram dream that is Pietro Nolita, I knew a monochromatic look would suit the ‘pink as fuck’ vibe of the place perfectly. Aside from being super pretty to photograph, I loved the restaurant’s cosiness and thought the simple Italian cuisine was delicious. I’d most definitely return if I found myself in Downtown Manhattan again!
A classic black and white gingham is the perfect print for summer and these slim-fit trousers fit like a dream. The rest of the outfit is kept simple with a black jersey tube top and my favourite chunky trainers and belt bag. As much as I have a tendency to use the bag with most outfits, I particularly like it with this one, breaking up the simple silhouette and adding interest.
On another note, please look at how perfectly my socks match the walls around me. This was just a coincidence but a very happy one indeed.
Part 2 of my NYC Lookbook will be published next Friday evening. Stay tuned…
Peace and love, Bec
