A Note on Transeasonal Dressing

A Note on Transeasonal Dressing | Blonde Sartorial

Dressing between seasons can be really tricky because the weather is so damn unpredictable. One day, you’re whipping out your winter puffer coat ready to brave the wind and rain, the next, the mere thought of wearing anything thicker than a light sweater makes you sweat. It can be an absolute nightmare! However, implementing a few simple tips and tricks can make the transition between your summer and winter wardrobes a piece of cake (pumpkin-spiced for autumn, of course). Read my essential guide to transeasonal dressing for a selection of my personal favourites.

Invest in a light jacket. It’s not yet time to pull out your heavyweight wool coat from the back of your wardrobe, but there is definitely a chill in the air that wasn’t there a month ago. Investing a light jacket that suits your personal style and seamlessly fits in with the rest of your wardrobe is the perfect solution. A classic denim jacket, oversized blazer or trench coat will keep the autumn chill at bay and likely become a wardrobe staple for years to come.

The number one keyword to consider when it comes to transeasonal dressing is layers. Layer a jersey turtleneck under your favourite crop top or pair a summer dress with an oversized flannel, translucent tights and boots. As well as being completely practical, layering can inject new life into old clothing and really get your creative juices flowing. In the featured images, I layer a lightweight cotton shirtdress (albeit one with a somewhat autumnal print) over a simple black knitted turtleneck.

Transeasonal dressing may seem stressful, but it’s also a chance to mix and match pieces and trends from different seasons. You can continue wearing your favourite items from summer while debuting a few pieces from the autumn/winter collections that you can’t wait to show off. *Note the Prada lug-sole boots I’ve styled with my look. It’s all about working key fashion staples into your wardrobe, regardless of the season and experimenting to find a look that works for you. Right here. Right now.
